The beaches of Southern California offer opportunities for a wide range of recreational activities. Each beach has its own set of characteristics which attract thousands of visitors each year to come swim, surf, sunbath, explore, and basically enjoy the beauty and serenity the ocean has to offer. It is important however, to always keep in mind that with each beach along the Southern California coast, there are a variety of hazards that may not always be obvious at first glance.
As lifeguards, it is our responsibility to ensure the safety of beach visitors by monitoring and reporting hazards, as well as assisting those in need of help when they are in danger. This section of our website is designed to inform you some of the conditions which may exist at the beaches you visit and to suggest ways of preventing yourself from getting into dangerous situations. Remember to always check with the lifeguard before you enter into the water at a beach you are unfamiliar with.
